Maramuresh is a special historical region of Romania, with ancient traditions and well kept customs, with people that did not forget the inheritance left by their ancestors.

This region has a particular touristic potential, at present just partly exploited. In the past the accent was put on industrialization, but now the heavy industry is on the wane, while tourism is in great development and could eventually become the main source of income in the county. More and more Romanians and foreigners visit the legendary lands of Maramuresh.

Boiu Mare commune, as a part of this region, is a settlement with an ancient history - the villages in the commune were first mentioned almost half a millenium ago. Lost between hills covered by forests or by pastures, the little villages live in harmony with the surrounding environment, in an eternal likely peace. Nowadays, only the people's memory keeps track of the hardships to which history exposed the Romanians living here and in front of which they succeeded to maintain their dignity and identity.
